Newell Ransom Fogg (1894-1970)
This is Martin's maternal grandfather. This is a picture of Grampie Fogg as a young man. The date is unknown, but he is probably in his late teens or early twenties (1912-1920). Ransom is Grampie Fogg's paternal grandfather's first name.
Newell Fogg is the 8th generation from Samuel Fogg (1628-1672), the English immigrant to Hampton, New Hampshire, in the late 1640s. The line goes Newell-8, Edwin-7, Ransom-6, Samuel-5, Samuel Robie-4, Abner-3, Seth-2, and Samuel-1.
Newell Fogg was born in East Boston, Massachusetts, in 1894. Newell was the 7th of 9 children born to Edwin Pierce Fogg and Lena Cook Fogg. Edwin Fogg was born in Hampton, New Hampshire. Edwin worked as a "motorman", which means he drove trains for the Boston subway system. Lena Cook was born in St John, Newfoundland, Canada. Lena lived to be a few days short of her 100th birthday when she died in 1953.
In about 1914, Newell moved with his family to Ashburnham, Massachusetts. His family returned to East Boston a few months later, but Newell stayed in Ashburnham.
