After leaving Dayton and before we reached Palouse Falls, we drove east on US 12 until we reached the intersection with Washington Highway 261. We turned north on 261 and drove towards the Snake RIver. We crossed the Snake River near its confluence with the Palouse River at Lyons Ferry. The Snake River is navigable all the way to Lewiston, Idaho. Ocean-going ships and barges travel through a series of locks at multiple dams on the Snake. The body of water above the Lower Monumental Dam on the Snake is called Lake Herbert G. West. The bridge in the distances is a rail bridge.
